Polygon is a Layer 2 platform created in 2017 to solve the scaling problem of Ethereum’s network. Polygon produces new coins using a proof-of-stake consensus that requires users to stalk up tokens to gain mining rights. MATIC is the native ERC-20 token of Polygon. In April 2022, the circulating supply of MATIC was 7.7 million. The token’s fixed max supply is 10 billion units.
