While you may still be trying to catch up on your learning of what Web3 is, you might as well include Web5 in your to-learn list. Web5 is the next iteration of the internet, following Web3, and promises to bring new and innovative changes to how we interact and consume information online. With advancements in artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, and the Internet of Things, Web5 aims to make the internet a more connected, intelligent, and secure place for users. Get ready for a closer look into the exciting world of Web5 and what it has in store for the future.

Web 2 + Web3 = Web5?

Web2 and Web3 technologies laid the foundation for the development of Web5. Web2, also known as the "Read-Write" web, brought about a more interactive and collaborative online experience through social media, blogs, and other user-generated content platforms. It allowed for two-way communication and the creation of dynamic, constantly updated content. On the other hand, Web3, with its focus on decentralized technologies such as blockchain and peer-to-peer networking, aimed to improve privacy, security, and ownership of data on the internet.

The combination of these two technologies paved the way for the development of Web5, which leverages the advancements in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Web5 aims to build upon the interactive and collaborative aspects of Web2 and the decentralized, secure nature of Web3 to create an even more intelligent, connected, and user-centric internet experience. The integration of AI and IoT technologies will enable a more personalized and intuitive online experience while also making the internet more secure and user-friendly.

Self-owned Decentralized Identifiers

The true nature of Web5 resides in the user’s complete control over their private data. The complete decentralization of the Internet may sound utopic to most. Still, for Jack Dorsey, Twitter co-founder and the mind behind Web5, this dream can be achieved by materializing the three pillars of Web5:

Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) are unique digital identities that are owned and controlled by individuals and organizations rather than centralized authorities. They provide a secure and standardized way of identifying entities on the Web5, allowing them to transact and exchange information in a trustful manner. DIDs enable a more user-centric and privacy-preserving identity model, where users are in control of their data and can decide with whom they share it.

Verifiable Credentials (VCs) are digital representations of claims made by one entity about another entity. They can be used to represent various types of information, such as educational degrees, employment history, or health records. Unlike traditional digital certificates, VCs are tamper-evident and self-sovereign, meaning that the entity holding the VC is in control of it and can share it with others in a secure and verifiable way. VCs are a key component of the Web5 vision, as they enable the secure and privacy-preserving exchange of information and services online.

Decentralized Web Nodes (DWNs) are the building blocks of Web5, providing a peer-to-peer network for storing, retrieving, and exchanging data. DWNs are designed to be decentralized, distributed, and secure, allowing users to access and share information without relying on centralized servers. They enable a new Web architecture where data is stored and served by a network of nodes rather than by a few large data centers, providing users with greater control over their data and reducing the risk of single points of failure.

A Sensitive Internet Powered by IoT

Imagine having an internet that understands you, your moods, and emotions. That's the future that Web5 technology is bringing to the table. Powered by the Internet of Things (IoT), this new era of the internet promises to offer a more refined online experience tailored to your needs and feelings.

Gone are the days of a one-size-fits-all internet experience. With Web5, smart devices and skin-sensitive gadgetry will work together to create a "sensing" internet that can detect your stress levels and respond to your moods and emotions. This means that virtual reality (VR) environments will become more responsive to your needs, creating a safe and immersive atmosphere where you can relax and interact with others in a natural way.

But Web5 is not just about VR. It's about creating a more sensitive internet for everyone. Whether you're browsing social media or participating in online forums, Web5 technology will keep an eye out for any threatening language or content that may appear. By doing so, it will create a safe environment for all users, especially those who are vulnerable.

Say goodbye to the intrusion of corporate influence and hello to a more intuitive and responsive internet experience. With Web5, the internet is finally becoming sensitive to your needs, offering a personal and refined online experience like never before.
