Ether (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency of the open-source, decentralized network, Ethereum. Ether was launched in August 2014 under a Proof of Work mechanism, and it works not only as a token but also as a platform for several other cryptocurrencies. Unlike other cryptocurrencies which have a limited and planned production, Ether is unbounded, which means there is no limit to the number of coins that can be mined.
